COLOMERS

The town of Colomers is bordered by the municipalities of Vilopriu and Garrigoles to the north, Foixà to the south, Jafre to the east and Sant Jordi Desvalls to the west, and to the south is the River Ter. Thus, Colomers has an area of 4.30 km² and that makes it the smallest town in the Baix Empordà. The Riera de les Arces river course crosses a part of the municipality. History The first documentary references in Santa Maria de Colomers date back to the ninth century, and they are mentioned as a dependent cell of the monastery of Saint Medir. Throughout the 10th and 11th centuries, other documents confirm the existence and inform of the passage to the jurisdiction of Santa Maria d'Amer, where the monastery of Sant Medir moved. The church shows several constructive stages, two of which from the Romanesque period; 11th century are the apse, the frontis and the remains of the lateral walls and the Lombard decoration outside, as well as the capitals of the interiors of the apse; In the twelfth and twelfth centuries, the vault and pilasters and support arches corresponded. In the 16th and 17th centuries the fortification works were carried out, between the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a new intervention of importance in which the side chapels, the sacristy, the portal and the bell tower were added, between 1970 and 1973, a restoration process recovered part of the Romanesque structures that had been hidden.

The village has 2 restaurants, 1 snack bar, rental of kayaks, trips in balloons  aerostatic, hiking trails, horseback riding and cycling.
